TARGETS OF OPPORTUNITY
A Novel
Joe Weber

From the New York Times Best-Selling Author of DEFCON One

“A first-rate air-combat adventure by a master of the genre.”—Publishers Weekly

Joe Weber follows up his best-selling novel Rules of Engagement with another high-stakes thriller about a secret war and the courage of the men who fought it.

The Vietnam War is at its height, and the US has acquired a Soviet-built MiG-17. Marine aviator Brad Austin has been recruited to test-pilot it. The MiG is an aerial hotrod, crude yet lethally effective. But it’s not what Austin is flying, it’s where—behind enemy lines, disguised as a Russian pilot. If he succeeds in penetrating the enemy air space, he will find easy prey. But if he fails, he will be disavowed.

With edge-of-your-seat tension and gripping realism, Targets of Opportunity is thriller writing at its best!

“Some writers get better with age: Weber is among them. This novel will have great appeal for technothriller and military-fiction buffs, especially for those who love aviation.”—Library Journal

“Thanks be to the book-writing gods; we have a writer who does what writers are supposed to do—tell a story.”—The Wichita Eagle

As a former fighter pilot, Joe Weber knows his subject well. His military thrillers are fast-paced, accurate in every detail, and as current as this morning's headlines. His novels have appeared on the best-seller lists of the New York Times, Publishers Weekly, the Associated Press, and the Chicago Tribune. They have been translated into Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, Spanish, Polish, Russian, and Italian.

Mr. Weber holds a Master of Science Degree in Aviation Management. He is an Airline Transport Rated pilot with over 10,500 hours of flight time in 43 different types of aircraft, ranging from aerobatic biplanes and high-performance military jets to four engine transports.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970-1975. A carrier-qualified fighter/attack trained pilot, he graduated first in his class from advanced naval jet pilot training in Kingsville, Texas, in 1972. After his release from active duty, he flew commercially until 1989 when his first novel was published.

A native of Enid, Oklahoma, he lives near Pensacola, Florida, with his wife Jeannie.

“Reading to my oldest son at night, I often talk about the parts of the physical book. The dust jacket, the headband, and, yes, the endpapers. To me, publishers that care about books go to the extra effort to not just publish a book, but to physically build an attractive and quality book. Endpapers, in part, signify quality.”
